  • Stocks slipped as October ends, still Dow gains 14% for month

    The tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite fell over 1% on the final trading day of the month as the Dow Jones Industrial Average and S&P 500 followed suit. Investors took a pause ahead of the Federal Reserve's expected rate hike on Wednesday and the monthly jobs report due Friday. In commodities, oil slipped over 1% to $86.53 per barrel. The Dow still managed to jump 14% for the month, the best monthly percentage gain since 1976.
